Death Drop – Back in the Habit – Orchard Theatre, Dartford 01.11.2022
After a week apart it was back to the Orchard to not only enjoy tonight’s viewing, but was also kindly invited to catch a glimpse of what was coming to the Orchard theatre in the coming months! Getting insights from directors and writers of said productions too! I have a a lot to look forward to in my future viewings!
But, now back to tonight’s viewing, Death Drop – Back in the Habit is the second instalment of the Tuck Shop Drag show productions. With the first production parodying a murder mystery in an Agatha Christie style, the current production focuses more on the horror genre. When a convent of fierce Nuns has a visitor, a Father from the Vatican, their peace and tranquillity is shattered by that of a serial slayer that is slashing his way through the sisters. The Father has to step up and help Mother Superior of St Babs save their souls!
Filled with a Drag Star cast, this productions gives you the classic comedy, filled with laughs, puns, and many many innuendos, in true Drag style! The Sisters played by well known Drag stars Willam, Cheryl Hole, River Medway ad Victoria Scone really did give their unique take on the convent that had the audience chuckling away. Along with Drag King Louis Cyfer, and Inner Voice Corrina Buchan, that just topped off this casting perfectly.
It was great to see a diverse of queens that all worked well together, the trio of queens William, Cheryl and River all had their comedy persona’s that suited their character to a Tee. William with her straight face blunt but hilarious persona, River with her ditzy yet loveable character and Cheryl completing the trio with some excellent comic moments but delivers with some ‘killer’ drops! Victoria Scone was excellent as Mother Superior throughout and Louis Cyfer excelled as Father Alfie Romeo, each of them working so well as a cast and bouncing off one an other throughout, with even some unexpected adlibbing that comes so natural to Queens and Kings!
The show itself, doesn’t take itself seriously with constant reminders from the cast and the breaking of the forth wall it ensured that the audience not only felt included but displayed that of a classic drag show where really anything can happen and everything can be said! Having heard from the director Jesse Jones prior to the performance it was great to see his intake in his desire for the show – how they wish to expand Drag further into the arts, something I feel they are achieving! It has been amazing to see the Drag Arts grow and how popular and accepted it has become throughout the years. Having fallen in love with drag myself – thanks Ru Paul, I can’t not but be excited about a night of Drag in any form and this show is no different.
Back in the Habit is one of a kind, that will leave you laughing and chuckling. Giving true Drag entertainment for many to enjoy, but also allow fans of the Queens to see them in action and newcomers to fall in love with them too! A great Adult night out for sure!
