‘The Writers Bloc’ Coming to the Churchill Theatre Bromley!
I am very excited to say that I have had my first job as a reviewer and I couldn’t be happier.
I was tweeted by the new upcoming theatre company Unmasked Theatre, asking if I would be interested in viewing and blogging about their next production performing in Bromley on the Saturday 30th July. I kindly accepted and I am very looking forward to seeing something new to the stage.
Unmasked Theatre are an emerging, Sussex based company, with experience in touring theatre, classical adaptations and new writing. Our recent production of Romeo and Juliet was met with fantastic reviews (‘undeniably bold’…’ really gets the adrenaline pumping.’ Lawrence Smith- Mid Sussex Times.’) and we’re looking to build on that with our Summer season, which will also include a promenade production of Alice in Wonderland and a series of workshops to raise awareness about Ehler-Danlers Syndrome. Sponsors and supporters of Unmasked include O2 Think Big, Crawley Borough Council, Churchill Theatre Creative Learning.Unmasked Theatre are an emerging, Sussex based company, with experience in touring theatre, classical adaptations and new writing. The production I will be seeing is called ‘The Writers Bloc’ which is well underway with its rehearsals
The story is as follows:
‘Soviet Russia, 1937. In an effort to deflect public attention away from the deadly purges of his enemies, minister Valery Mezhaulk, acting on direct orders from Joseph Stalin commissions a great book to be written. Five great writers are placed in a room with an infinite supply of vodka, cigarettes and fear. For each writer it is their last chance, and every word is loaded.
Follow the fictional historical thriller based on the lives of writers Yevgeny Zamyatin (We), Mikhail Bulgakov (The Master and Magherita), and Boris Pasternak (Dr Zhivago) The Writers’ Bloc explores ideas of loyalty, heroism and what censorship does to literature and artists. With an exciting blend of philosophy, comedy and physical theatre, Unmasked Theatre offer a glimpse of the life of a writer during the Great Terror. Original Script by Luke Ofield, created and devised by Unmasked Theatre, directed by Pip O’Neill and Luke Ofield (Romeo and Juliet, The Trojan Women, The Great Gatsby).’
I am looking forward to taking my seat next weekend, and if you are interested then you can book your tickets through the Companies website here ( where you can get further information and also where the I got the quotes above from) or the Churchill Theatre Website here. The production is 75 minutes with no interval.
I hope to see some of you there!
